Cartographic products are the most convenient, demonstrative and succinct way to present the results of alternative energy resources research, theirs quantitative characteristics and spatial distribution. Despite the extensive practical experience in the drafting of alternative energy maps, the development of the theory and methodology of alternative energy cartographic support require further research. The article is devoted to theoretical and methodological foundations of small-scale mapping for the needs of alternative energy. Maps content, scope, system of map indicators were substantiated; the example of wind energy maps series designed for the territory of the Kiev region and the map symbols for other types of alternative energy resources were presented. Given the world and national experience it was determined that alternative energy mapping should include displaying of resources, conditions and factors affecting the industry, as well as existing energy facilities and current state of alternative energy development. The structural-logical model was built for the systematization of cartographic sources, mapping parameters, maps content, and establishment of logical connections in the information system for alternative energy mapping support. Detailed classification of alternative energy maps on functional purpose has been proposed. The article considers the direction of practical use of small-scale maps for management and development of alternative energy industry. Analysis of cartographic information allows planning the development of different alternative energy sources in the study area, to make management decisions at national and regional level. Keywords: map, small-scale mapping, alternative energy, alternative energy resources.
